About This Mastery Certificate

The IV Therapy Mastery Certificate (IVTMC) provides demonstrable proof of knowledge, skills and experience for defined areas within the scope of practice for the clinician performing peripheral intravenous therapies. The IVTMC serves as validation of the clinicians ability to perform peripheral intravenous therapy with a high level of knowledge of infection prevention principles, best practice techniques, and management skills for IV Therapy. Mastery Certificates are earned through a process by which an agency grants recognition to an individual who has met predetermined standards specified by that agency. The IVTMC does NOT verify competency; rather, PICC Excellence is certifying that the candidate has met certain standards of knowledge and training specific to peripheral intravenous catheter insertion, venipuncture, dressing change and catheter removal. Competency is established by the employer or preceptor.

GETTING STARTED

Eligibility Requirements:
Minimum one year of practice performing peripheral IV Therapy
Proof of 40 hours education in vascular access (less than 3 years old)
Clinical Education - 6 hours minimum (6 Hour Practicum within last 12 months)
Competency Assessment signed by supervisor within last 12 months, using competency checklists to confirm adherence to industry standards and guidelines for PIV Catheter Insertion, Dressing Change, Venipuncture and PIV Catheter Removal
Current professional license
